IACCI and The Iraqi Federation of Chambers of Commerce Announce a Conference on the New Iraqi Law for Investment (www.i-acc.org)

Baghdad, November 18, 2003 – Iraq is witnessing many changes in the recent period. Among them has been the passing of a new Iraqi law for investment. It’s importance precedes itself in the context of the recent state of affairs, from a social, and especially economic, perspective. To promote awareness and clarity of the new investment law, a conference will be held in the Convention Center on December 2nd sponsored by a number of community and governmental organizations.

The new law for investment is a step in the right direction towards rejuvenating Iraqi economy. Businessmen, including merchants, industrial workers, and investors, are invited to attend a conference in which the new law will be highlighted for discussion. The law will be discussed by a group of qualified speakers, addressing the law’s significance for the Iraqi businessman, promoting business and creating jobs in Iraq. Topics for discussion will also include shortcomings of the law and what kinds of improvements could be made. A time of open-panel questions and answers will follow presentations made by a group of speakers instrumental in formulating and implementing the new law.

Distinguished speakers will include representatives from the Ministries of Planning, Trade, Finance and Industry as well as the head of the Iraqi Bar Association. In addition, representatives from the Coalition Provisional Authority will be in attendance, along with the heads of the Iraqi American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IACCI) and the Iraqi Federation of Chambers of Commerce.

The conference is sponsored by the Iraqi Federation of Chambers of Commerce, the Iraqi American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IACCI), Iraqi Federation of Industry, the Baghdad Chamber of Commerce, the Ministries of Trade, Finance, Planning, and Industry, as well as the Iraqi Business Center.

The conference will be held in the Convention center on Tuesday, the second of December from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm.
